How to Get to Calella de Palafrugell with Kids

By Car

  • Calella de Palafrugell is 135 km from Barcelona. You can take the AP7 motorway towards Gerona/France and get off at junction 9 (Vidreres / Lloret), taking the road to Sant Feliu de Guíxols and Platja d’Aro (C-35) and then aiming for Palamós (C-31), taking junction 331 Palafrugell Sud. Then head to “Platges” and take the road GIV-6546 to Calella de Palafrugell.
  • Calella de Palafrugell is 80 km from the French border. Take the AP7 towards Barcelona and get off at junction 6 (Girona Nord), take the road to La Bisbal / Palamós (C-66) and the exit 331 for Palafrugell Sud. Head to “Platges” and take the road GIV-6546 to Calella de Palafrugell.

  • Tel. 0034 972 18 66 00. From Girona Costa Brava airport to Girona’s bus station. You will find various buses all day long with the Sagalés company.

Visit Cap Roig Botanical Gardens and have a picnic there. The garden is divided into different terraces that descend from the castle to the sea. The upper terraces are not ideal for buggies since they are connected by a staircase known as the Cyprus Stairs.

Canadell Beach – The beach forms a beautiful ensemble together with the promenade and the old fishermen’s porches. A visit to Canadell Beach- is highly recommended. Canadell Beach is usually frequented by families. It has different services such as a bar, showers, toilets and a lifeguard service. It is accessible for people with reduced mobility thanks to ramps and walkways. This beach has also been awarded the EMAS, ISO 14001 and Blue Flag quality labels.

The Beach – Enjoy a day at the beach if you’re visiting during summer. In Calella de Palafrugell you will find small coves to enjoy with the family. Get under the shade of a boat on the beach of Port Bo, in the centre of the village.

Julivia  – Ride on this open deck hop-on hop-off tourist bus. From July to September, the bus offers a 90 minute tourist route, with departures from the Palafrugell bus station. The ticket is valid for a full day. You can get on and off as many times as you want throughout the day.

Parks and playgrounds – Visit any of these and kids will have a blast here.

Activities for older kids

Keeping the older kids happy, entertained, and reducing the amount of times they ask for a screen or complain about being bored.

Coastal Path -The coastal path between Calella de Palafrugell and Llafranc is one of the many examples of the coastal paths along Costa Brava. It is one of the most accessible walks and takes about 20 minutes at an average pace. It is less than a kilometre and offers spectacular views of the coast. One of the characteristics of this section is the fact that it is not very high above sea level and the rocky formations descend until reaching the rocks that frame the beaches, where there are often bathers or fishermen.

The coastal path between Calella de Palafrugell and Llafranc crosses the urban promenade, the photogenic Carrer de Les Voltes and Port Bo beach, goes through the courtyard of a house and follows the Canadell beach promenade. When you start to make out the Bay of Llafranc from the coastal path, you will be able to see the famous Sant Sebastià Lighthouse to the north. Llafranc consists of a single sandy beach and faces the urban centre and its busy promenade.

Kayaking – Rent a kayak from Canadell Beach and explore the coast of Calella de Palafrugell.

Snorkel Tours – A unique opportunity to discover the Costa Brava from the sea. These trips offer you the chance to experience unique moments with family or friends in a different way. You decide whether to swim or stay on the boat sunbathing.

Mini Golf Squash Club – Located in the road from Calella de Palafrugell to Palafrugell, the mini golf squash club opens during the summer season and it opens on weekends on wintertime.

Visit “Sa Perola” – Located inside the Tourist Office in Calella de Palafrugell, this building from the 18th century was used by the local fishermen to strengthen the traditional cotton fishing nets. On the first floor there is an exhibition with old pictures and a video that explains the history of the town.

There is a big park with a new playground in “Prat Xirlo” area, between the streets of Llebeig and Tenerife.

There are also smaller playground areas. A plus to visiting them is that they are all easily reached on foot:

Discover the nearby beach of Llafranc. Llafranc is less than 1km away from Calella. You will also visit Sant Sebastià’s lighthouse, which offers incredible
views of the sea. Enjoy Tamariu beach and jump from its springboard. Go to Palafrugell market on Sunday morning and visit the different museums:
Cork Museum, Can Mario Museum Vilacasas Foundation. Climb up to the top of the old water tank, located between these two museums, for views from the sea to the Pyrenees.

The first weekend of June Calella de Palafrugell celebrate “Festes de Primavera”, a spring festival during which there is music, contests, activities for kids and even a Carnival parade!
There is a traditional event that takes place the first Saturday of July, Habaneras singing festival in Calella de Palafrugell, during which the town and beaches of Calella are filled with live music, people and fun.
