The Best Time to Visit Slovenia with Kids
June to August are the most popular months of visiting Slovenia. Ljubljana comes alive during the summer months, when locals flock to outdoor cafes and have picnics in the parks or by the Ljubljanica River. From May to September, temperatures are warmer and the countryside is full of greenery, becoming an excellent spot for nature loving families. Take the advantage to bike through the Alpine Forest or hike along the forest, swim in the clear, glacier lakes or take up canoeing through the turquoise-coloured rivers. Wintertime is a magical one in Slovenia. Visit Lake Bled and be sure that your kids will picture again the movie Frozen. During Christmas time, there is also a Christmas market and ski resorts that are open such as Kranjska Gora and Krvavec.
How to Get to Slovenia with Kids
By Plane
The easiest way to travel to Slovenia is by plane. Several countries fly directly to Slovenia’s airport Joze Pucnik near the capital Ljubljana. The airport of Trieste is the closest one to the most visited regions in Slovenia. If you’re making your way from Venice to Slovenia, taking the motorway would only be a 200km from Slovenia. Croatia is another short drive to Slovenia.

- Lake Bled – This is Slovenia’s landmark. In the middle of the reservoir is a small island on which the baroque church of St. Mary has been standing. There is also the Bled castle, sitting on a cliff near Lake Bled.
- Visit Ljubljana – The capital of Slovenia. Walk around the medival streets of Ljubljana and enjoy the local cuisine. When visiting Ljubljana, you surely can’t miss the Ljubljana castle. You can reach the Ljubljana Castle on foot or by the funicular.

Druga Violina – Serving Slovenian classic food. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. This place is a project for people with disabilities who produce most of the food in the farmland and also work in the restaurant.
Sombrero – A Tex-Mex, family-friendly themed café and bar. Located in the Fužine neighbourhood. Whilst parents enjoy their drink, kids can spend their time in the playground here. During the summer months, the playground has inflatable bouncy castles, one looking like an aquarium.
Visit the central market in Ljubljana – Located in the Vodnikov trg and Pogačarnev trg squares. This is a great place to stroll around, enjoy coffee and by some great food.
